You know, it's wonderful to go to a concert that you really enjoy, but it's even better when the band comes back and you have really high expectations and you're still not disappointed.
Dufus was here today, and I was wondering whether I'd like them as much this time as before, and if perhaps last time my enjoyment stemmed more from just happiness at being at Colgate, and whether I'd like the live performance less after getting used to hearing the regular versions of their songs more often. But tonight I got to remember really how much of a visual show Dufus is, and how even though the music stands on its own, the experience isn't complete until they're standing in front of you in all their various weirdness. The way they're all dressed, from Quankmeyer with his bizarre pants with a tail, to the mad scientist type guy in his lab coat thing. The way there's a certain balance to the positions of all the people crammed onto the stage. The way their interludes of strange sounds seem both spontaneous and practiced at once. It's just so neat. When they played The Underwear Song I went into some weird content nirvana for the vast majority of it. Everything they did drew me in, except perhaps towards the end of their excessively long funny-sounds break. Happy happy happy. And they were selling cd's and pins and giving out stickers, and I got their last two albums together for $15. I can't wait to listen to them. Dufus has really become one of my very favorite bands.
