I will assign, one or more meetings in advance, readings eligible for for reports.  You will need to do 15 over the course of the term.  One or two a week would be a good pace.  These can NOT be turned in late because once we have discussed them you are no longer contributing.  So pace yourself.  You not only MAY, but I recommend that you use any reading for which you are responsible for initiating discussion.

Put your name, the class, and the date at the top of the sheet [The class is important because I am requiring these in two classes, and some of you are in both!].

Enter the reading(s) in correct bibliographic format [see Formats and Bibliographies for Papers & Theses].
This is important for two reasons:

Answer as many of the following as are appropriate to the reading.  A phrase or sentence often will do:

  1. What is/are the main arguments of this reading? 
  2. What does the reading tell us about globalization, ancient, early capitalist, or current?
  3. Does this approach contradict, alter, or add to previous readings?
  4. Are there terms, concepts, arguments that you find unclear?
  5. Any other comments you would like to make on this reading.

Depending how lengthy your answers are, you could answer these questions for two readings on one sheet of paper.

As you learn more about globalization, which questions are appropriate will change.  For some readings some of the questions will not apply.  For some readings nearly everyone will have the same answer.  And for some other readings, nearly everyone will have a different answer!  The latter can happen when a reading is complex, or because as each of you get further and further into your case study, you will read with a somewhat different view.
